Thammajirao Ramchandran Rao
Thammajirao Ramchandran Rao obtained his DSc from the University of Kolkata in 1961. His specialization was in anopheles mosquitoes and measures for controlling malaria in rural area. His study included the epidemiology of vector-borne diseases and viruses and morphology of grasshoppers' chromosomes. Dr. Rao was Director, Virus Research Centre, Pune. He was President, Zoology Section, Indian Science Congress in 1972. He was a Fellow of the National Academy of Medical Sciences, National Society of Communicable Diseases, Royal Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene. He was also an Honorary Member of the American Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene.

Subhash Mukhopadhyay
Subhash Mukhopadhyay obtained his Ph.D. from the University of Kolkata in 1958 and specialized in Reproductive Endocrinology. He became the first physician in India to perform In-vitro fertilization resulting in a test tube baby in October 1978. Dr. Mukhopadhyay's name is included in 'The Dictionary of Medical Biography’ published by the World Foundation, which enlists 1100 medical scientists from 100 countries around the world for their pathbreaking contributions to Medical Science.
