Rudolf Ludwig Carl Virchow Krishna Saran Mathur

Krishna Saran Mathur obtained his MD from University of Lucknow (1947). His specialization was Cardiology. He was a pioneer in experimental Cardiology. He carried out studies on epidemiological, biochemical, morphological and experimental facets of arteriosclerosis and coronary heart diseases. He also worked on epidemiological, clinical and immunological aspects based on experimental studies of rheumatic fever and kidney diseases. He discovered the role of Bengal gram as a hypocholesterolemic agent. He received the Watumall Memorial Award (1966), BC Roy National Award (1979). He was President, Association of Physicians of India (1972-73). He was Emeritus Fellow, American College of Cardiology, International College of Aniology.

Andreas Vesalius K K G Menon

K K G Menon obtained his PhD from Toronto University (1956). His areas of specializations were Biochemistry, Microbiology and Toxicology. His research achievements were Preparation of a Plague vaccine using casein hydrolysate instead of blood agar, demonstration of biosynthesis of lecithin from phosphatidyl ethanolamine through vitamin B12 and methionine, Demonstration of increased ketogenesis by deacylation of aceto-acetyl CoA in diabetes, Development of the concept of ‘Shadow nutrients’ indicating the possibilities of the use of lipoic acid in the treatment of diabetes and of taurine in human infants for better health and choline in very old people for better retention of memory. He was Associate Professor of Pharmacology at St. Louis University, USA. Research Director, Hindustan Lever Ltd. He was President, Society of Biological Chemists (India).
