Rudolf Ludwig Carl Virchow Sibte Hassan Zaidi

Sibte Zaidi obtained his Bachelor of Medicine and surgery (1945) from King George’s Medical College, Lucknow. Later he obtained his PhD from University of London. He was Head, Division of Experimental Medicine at Central Drug Research Institute, Lucknow. His specialization was mechanisms that underlie peptic ulcer, atherosclerosis, vasospasm, eosinophilia. He demonstrated the requirement of a mucus barrier in the prevention of peptic ulcer disease. He established research infrastructure at Indian Institute of Chemical Biology, Kolkata. He studied industrial toxins and the mechanism of pulmonary fibrosis due to exposure to toxins like asbestos, silica, wood dust, bagasse. Dr Zaidi was awarded Shanti Swaroop Bhatnagar Award (1963), Padma Shree (1977). He was awarded the William Yant award for lifetime achievements and contributions to industrial toxicology by American Industrial Hygiene Association.

Andreas Vesalius Harcharan Daas Tandon

Harcharan Daas Tandon obtained his PhD (1955) from Agra University and FRC Pathology from London. His main contributions are the discovery of, the first known human outbreak of liver disease caused by Aflatoxicosis, Evidence of diffuse parenchymal disease in non-supportive amoebic hepatitis, The presence of grade III and IV changes in pulmuno hypertension accompanying congenital heart disease, Description of diffuse intimal thickening of aorta as a variant of human atherosclerotic lesion. Dr. Tandon was the recipient of the Dr BC Roy Memorial Award (1980). He was Consultant to WHO on Medical Education, Member, WHO Task Force on Environmental Health Criteria for Mycotoxins. He was President, National Board of Examinations.
