Legends of Science
Praphulla Chandra Guha Praphulla Chandra Guha

Praphulla Chandra Guha obtained his DSc from the University of Kolkata in 1923. He did pioneering work on the synthesis of mono and sesqui-terpenoids and bridged bicyclic compounds. He also established preparative synthesis for antimalarials, sulpha drugs, local anesthetics, essential oils, and natural products. Dr. Guha was Chairman, Department of Organic Chemistry, Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore. He was the President of Chemistry section of the Indian Science Congress (1936).

Nuggehalli Raghuveer Moudgal Nuggehalli Raghuveer Moudgal

Nuggehalli Raghuveer Moudgal obtained his Ph.D. from the University of Madras in 1958. He specialized in the biochemistry of thyroid hormones. His pioneering work was the extensive use of characterized hormonal antibodies to unravel the specific function of LH and FSH in regulating the reproductive physiology of the intact animal and the mode of action of the hormone at the cellular and molecular level. Dr. Moudgal was Dean, Faculty of Science, IISc, Bangalore. He was the recipient of the BC Guha Award in 1975, Shanti Swaroop Bhatnagar Award in 1976.

Deep learning enhances cancer diagnostic tools

22 September 2021, EurekAlert

Researchers at the Beckman Institute Biophotonics Imaging Laboratory applied deep learning to polarization-sensitive optical coherence tomography to better detect cancer. OCT is a non-invasive imaging test that uses light waves to determine the properties of a biological sample...

Scientists develop artificial intelligence method to predict anti-cancer immunity

23 September 2021, ScienceDaily

Researchers and data scientists have developed an artificial intelligence technique that can identify which cell surface peptides produced by cancer cells called neoantigens are recognized by the immune system...

Therapy using dual immune system cells effectively controls neuroblastoma

23 September 2021, MedicalXpress

The researchers utilized CAR-T cell (chimeric antigen receptor-T cell) immunotherapy, which involves harvesting immune-system T cells from a patient and genetically re-engineering them in the lab to recognize targets on the surface of cancer cells when they are reinfused into patients...
