Hem Singh Pruthi
Hem Singh Pruthi obtained his Ph.D. from the University of Cambridge, the UK, in 1925. His major contribution was biological control of insect pests, pests of fruit trees, taxonomic studies on an homopterous group of insects, and desert locust control. Dr. Pruthi won the OBE (Order of the British Empire) award. He was the elected Fellow of the Entomological Society of India; Secretary, INSA; and President of the Indian Science Congress in 1940.

Mandayam Jeersannidhi Thirumalachar
Mandayam Jeersannidhi Thirumalachar received his Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin, USA, in 1948. His contributions include the discovery of 20 new antibiotics; the development of Phyton-27, a non-toxic copper fungicide; the genetic transformation of pseudo-yeast to produce human insulin, and the establishment of about 300 new species of fungi. Dr. Thirumalachar received the SS Bhatnagar Award in 1967, the Sunder Lal Hora Medal by INSA, and the Polish Academy of Sciences Medal. He was elected Fellow of the Indian Phytopathological Society, New York Academy of Sciences, and the first President of the Mycological Society of India.
