Yeleswarpu Siva Rama Krishna Sarma
Yeleswarpu Siva Rama Krishna Sarma obtained his PhD from the University of London, UK, in 1958.
His research interests were algal Cytotaxonomy and cytogenetics. His research on algal karyology
led to the discovery of various life cycle patterns, including polyploid and cytological races. He was
the Fellow of the Indian Botanical Society; Indian Phycological Society, and Linnaean Society,
London. He won the Gold Medal of the Indian Botanical Society in 1983.

Shiv Kanth Pande
Shiv Kanth Pande obtained his DSc from the University of Lucknow in 1936. His primary research
interest was plant morphology, cytology and bryology. His pioneering research contained cultural
and cytological investigation of the spiralling pattern on Riccia. He built a rich collection of plants
and herbs during his travels from the Himalayas to Sri Lanka. He was elected President of the
Botany section, Indian Science Congress (1959) and Indian Botanical Society (1958).
