Jamshedji Jijibhoy Chinoy
Jamshedji Jijibhoy Chinoy obtained his PhD from the University of London, UK, in 1935. His research topics were plant physiology and agricultural botany. His pioneering work being the role of ascorbic acid in plant growth. His other research topics were the energy requirement of crop plants, physiology of inheritance and selection of high-yielding varieties based on flowering time, and classification of wheat varieties based on their pre-sowing hardening treatment of seed for inducing resistance to drought and salinity. He received the Rafi Ahmed Kidwai Memorial Prize (1975). He was the President of the Physiology section of IX International Botanical Congress, Montreal (1963).

Krishnasamy Ramaiah
Krishnasamy Ramaiah obtained his DSc from Utkal University in 1953. He initiated work on rice hybridization. His pioneering work was in gene identification and symbolization construction of linkage maps and classification of rice varieties according to grain quality. Dr, Ramaiah received Padma Shri in 1956; Padma Bhushan in 1970. He was a Fellow National Academy of Sciences, Allahabad; the Indian Academy of Sciences, Bangalore and an Honorary Fellow Japanese Breeding Society.
