Manju Ray Manju Ray

Manju Ray received her PhD from the University of Kolkata in 1975. She contributed significantly to the research in developing anticancer drugs and understanding the differentiation process of cells. Her primary work was the isolation, purification and characterization of a series of enzymes involved in methylglyoxal anabolism and catabolism. She was awarded the S S Bhatnagar Award in 1989. She received Indian National Science Academy Young Scientist Award in Biological Sciences in 1975 and; Dr I C Chopra Memorial Award in 2003.

Mahtab Sohrab Bamji Mahtab Sohrab Bamji

Mahtab Bamji obtained her PhD from Mumbai University in 1961. She made significant contributions in nutritional biochemistry towards understanding the aetiology and the biochemical/molecular basis of clinical manifestation of B vitamins deficiencies development of tests for assessing vitamin nutrition status. She contributed to various national projects to reduce malnutrition and improve the nutrition status in the country. She is the recipient of various awards like the Patwardhan Prize (1973); National Award for woman Scientist (2000); R Devdas Memorial Award (2010). She is a fellow of the National Academy of Agricultural Sciences, New Delhi; the National Academy of Medical Sciences and the National Academy of Sciences.
