Legends of Science
Jeevan Prakash Verma Jeevan Prakash Verma

Jeevan Prakash Verma obtained his PhD from the University of Lucknow. His research topic was the interaction of host and pathogen genotypes occurrence of mixed pathogen genotypes in single lesions. His data on valid host-gene combinations, biochemical resistance, and bio-degradation of antibiotics could generate practical concepts in ecological plant pathology. He won the Birbal Sahni Gold Medal and Ruchi Ram Sahni Research Award. He was the elected Fellow of the National Academy of Sciences, Allahabad and the National Academy of Agricultural Sciences, New Delhi. He was the elected President of the Indian Phytopathological Society, Indian Botanical Society and Indian Science Congress (1990).

Rappal Sangameswara Krishnan Rappal Sangameswara Krishnan

Rappal Krishnan received his PhD from the University of Cambridge, UK, in 1941. He specialized in Light scattering, Raman & Infrared spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, geochronology and ultrasonics. Dr Krishan did pioneering work to establish deuteron-induced fission in Uranium and Thorium. He received the Sir C V Raman Centenary Gold Medal and the Platinum Jubilee Distinguished Alumni Award of IISc. He was a Fellow of the American Physical Society, Indian Academy of Sciences, Bangalore and Institute of Physics, London. He was the President Indian Science Congress (1949).

Indian researchers from ACTREC discover novel therapeutic Agent for a host of diseases

17 January 2023, PR NewsWire

Researchers from the Advanced Centre for Treatment, Research & Education in Cancer (ACTREC), Tata Memorial Centre (TMC), India, have recently demonstrated therapeutic benefits of a pro-oxidant mixture of resveratrol and copper, R-Cu, in patients undergoing chemotherapy for advanced gastric cancer. Combining R with Cu (R-Cu) leads to the generation of free oxygen radicals which can inactivate the offending cfChPs...

New molecular blocker halts breast cancer metastasis

17 January 2023, EurekAlert

In the recent study the researchers defined the precise segment of the protein involved in the interaction between Pyk2 and cortactin. The small segment, known as a peptide, was synthesized in the laboratory and administered to breast cancer-bearing mice...

Multimodal sequencing achieves high-quality results from small volumes of frozen tumor specimens

18 January 2023, MedicalXpress

Researchers created a new sequencing method that delivered top results from a small amount of frozen tumor specimens. Usually collected during clinical trials and stored in biobanks, these specimens may include tissues from rare cancers and patients with unique histories or risk factors...
