Rudrendra Kumar Pal Rudrendra Kumar Pal

Rudrendra Kumar Pal obtained his DSc from the University of Edinburgh, UK, in 1931. His primary research included the Effects of vitamins on the thyroid and suprarenals, the vagotropic action of insulin on the heart, the cardiotonic action of insulin with transfusion of glucose solution, and the synthesis of two new oral hypoglycaemic drugs. He was a member of the INSA Council. He won the ND Agarwalla Prize from the University of Delhi Golden Jubilee Plaque by INSA. He was elected Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh, President Asiatic Society.

Shyamsunderlal Pradhan Shyamsunderlal Pradhan

Shyamsunderlal Pradhan received his DSc from the University of Lucknow in 1938 and PhD from the University of London, UK, in 1948. He generalized the dynamics of temperature effect on insect development. He invented a biometer and standardized techniques for population study. His other research topics included the biotic theory of the locust cycle, the effect of temperature on the susceptibility of insects to insecticides, the impact of particle size on the toxicity of insecticides, the mode of action of DDT, neem as an insect repellent, and ecological manipulation for safe storage of food grains. Dr Pradhan was the recipient of the Hari Om Ashram Trust Award. He was elected Fellow of the Royal Entomological Society and Entomological Society of India and remained President for four terms.
