Research Interests

  • Molecular signaling underlying self-renewal and differentiation of normal stem cells and tissue homeostasis
  • Cell signaling involved in the maintenance of Cancer stem cells (CSCs) and interaction with the microenvironment
  • The epigenetic and metabolic regulation of the CSCs and its effect on therapy resistance, tumorigenicity and hybrid EMT status

RESEARCH

The focus of our group is to unravel the molecular mechanisms that control both the normal adult stem cells and cancer stem-like cell regulation., In particular, our aim is to elucidate the molecular signaling such as Wnt/Notch/Sonic-hedgehog, etc., and also the intricate crosstalk between epigenetic modification and metabolic rewiring, which regulate self-renewal and differentiation of stem cells in murine epidermal stem cells. Furthermore, mice carcinogenesis model is being used to study an early tumor initiation events and cancer stem cells (CSCs) regulation. The group is investigating the role of aberrant molecular signaling, epigenetic and metabolic dysregulation in tumor initiation, CSCs and its tumor microenvironment involved in human skin and oral squamous cell carcinoma. Overall, approach is to unravel normal stem cells and cancer stem cells regulation, which would provide a broader perspective in understanding the normal stem cells that are involved in tissue homeostasis, while the CSCs escape chemo-radio therapy leading to recurrence.
