RESEARCH

The primary goal of our lab is to understand "Metabolic Reprogramming in Virus-Host Interactions." During viral oncogenesis, viral oncogenes extensively reprogram host cell metabolism to support rapid proliferation and survival. This metabolic shift extends beyond mere energy production; it plays a pivotal role in altering cellular signaling and dampening the host's immune response, thereby creating an environment favorable for tumor persistence. We specifically focus on elucidating the molecular mechanisms by which viruses modify mitochondrial functions and alter mitochondrial dynamics. Moreover, our lab seeks to explore how this transformed mitochondrial metabolism facilitates immune evasion by suppressing innate immunity pathways. We also aim to identify and target these metabolic vulnerabilities with specific inhibitors to reactivate the innate immune surveillance system. To validate these findings in a physiological context, we employ advanced molecular techniques, including cell-metabolism assays alongside specific syngeneic and orthotopic mouse models for various virus-associated cancers.

JOIN THE TEAM—We invite motivated Master’s students and Project Assistants to join our group. We also welcome prospective PhD students and Postdoctoral Fellows who are enthusiastic about working in a multidisciplinary cell-metabolism research environment. Interested candidates are requested to email their CV and 1-page statement of research interests (approx. 500 words) to malay.sannigrahi[at]actrec[dot]gov[dot]in
