RESEARCH

The research programme of the Cancer Genetics Unit has evolved over a decade from a clinical genetics programme to the present comprehensive programme including molecular genetics initiated after establishing the SARIN Lab in 2007 and now moving to population genetics. Several thousand subjects from ~1000 families with various hereditary cancer syndromes have been registered and a Bank of their Genomic DNA and EBV transformed lymphoblastoid cell line established. In addition there is a cohort of cases and controls with Multiple Primary Neoplasm (MPNs) and sporadic breast, thyroid or early age cancers with their genomic DNA banked.Biobanking of various tumour tissues with full clinical annotation has also been initiated. Utilizing these resources and collaborators, research has been initiated to examine 3 major aspects of cancer genetics:
