Our research group at ACTREC is interested in understanding how the micro-environment around stem cells changes during development and disease conditions. Homeostasis is governed by optimal levels of cellular signalling. We aim to focus on understanding stem cell - niche interactions and their contribution to the maintenance of tissue and organ homeostasis. Cellular signalling networks are complex and our laboratory aims to understand how localized networks in a given tissue/organ system co- ordinate and engage with systemic signalling networks for optimal physiological functioning. While the primary model system that we work with is Drosophila (fruit flies), we aim to employ different biological systems to answer these pertinent questions. One of our long term goals is to extend our basic research findings to a translational/clinical set up. If this interests you and you would like to work with us, write to us!
